Center for Healthcare Technology Tops Out

February 20, 2018

Workers and the IMC team at the Center for Healthcare Technology in Philadelphia celebrated the topping out. IMC Construction began the structural steel erection of the design-build project in September for the $200M, 19-story tower. Located on one of the last parcels at 3600 Civic Center Boulevard in Philadelphia, the facility will create a new gateway to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The first phase of construction is approximately 300,000 square feet and will support a daycare for employees, information technology personnel, and human resources.

As a critical function to the support of the tremendous research that occurs within Penn Medicine, an Investigational Drug Study (IDS) Pharmacy will be housed to provide investigational drugs to and through the Penn Medicine Health System. The building will also house a Freezer Farm to promote collaboration among researchers for their samples as well as their data use in large clinical studies that move modern medicine forward.

Due to the tight setting, and the logistical constraints of working within the boundaries of three busy streets in University City, the project took months of preconstruction planning, modeling, prefabrication, and site phasing prior to the start of construction.
